What’s not covered
- Maintenance services and parts, such as batteries, brakes, trim, wiper blades and wheels.
- Aftermarket accessories or equipment installed after your vehicle purchase date.
- Breakdown, including overheating, caused by abuse or misuse.
- Certain vehicle components and conditions caused by corrosion, collision or inadequate maintenance.
- Emergency Roadside for flat tire assistance doesn’t cover tire replacement, only removal of the flat tire or mounting of spare tire replacement.
- Emergency Roadside Assistance fuel delivery doesn’t cover cost of fuel.

Yes. All of our cars are CarMax Certified and come with a 90-day/4,000-mile (whichever comes first) limited warranty. Our limited warranty includes guaranteed coverage on all parts and labor for covered systems during the warranty period, with zero cost to you. Systems covered: Frame and Body; Engine; Transmission and Drive Shaft; Differential; Cooling, Electrical, Fuel, Steering, Suspension, Restraint, Brake, and Exhaust Systems; Gauges; HVAC; Tires; Wheels. Some exclusions and limitations apply. Ask your store for specific details or to request a copy of our limited warranty.
No, MaxCare is an entirely optional extended service plan, but many CarMax customers choose MaxCare for the peace of mind it brings to long-term car ownership.
Unlike many other service plans that are available today, MaxCare offers named exclusion coverage as opposed to named component coverage. What this means is that there is a specific list of non-covered components and losses. Certain causes of loss such as corrosion and abuse are also excluded. If the item in question is not on the exclusion list, it is covered. We believe that this is the most simple and transparent way to present this information to our customers.
No. MaxCare is only available at the time you purchase your CarMax vehicle.
Yes, you can include MaxCare in your monthly payment or purchase it upfront using a credit card, cash or check.
If your car needs repairs that are covered by your MaxCare plan, you pay your chosen deductible to the repair facility who will be repairing your car. Deductibles are only paid once per visit to the repair facility (regardless of how many repairs are made during that one visit). MaxCare pays the repair facility directly for the covered repairs.
If you have covered repairs completed at a CarMax service center or a RepairPal Certified shop, your deductible will be reduced by $50 (state limitations may apply).
You may cancel your MaxCare plan at any time. The amount of your refund is calculated based on a pro-rata term and/or mileage and may be subject to a cancellation fee. If you financed your car through one of CarMax's finance sources, any refund amount will be credited to your finance account.
Yes! You can take your vehicle to any licensed service facility in the US or Canada that offers a 6-month/6,000-mile warranty on parts and labor. If you have covered repairs completed at a CarMax service center or a RepairPal Certified shop, your deductible will be reduced by $50 (state limitations may apply).

If you sell your car, you may either transfer your MaxCare plan to the new owner or cancel your MaxCare plan. If you transfer your MaxCare plan, a transfer fee may apply. If you cancel your MaxCare plan, any refund owed will be calculated based on a pro-rata term and/or mileage, and cancellations may be subject to a cancellation fee.
