Fifth generation Honda Odyssey
If your priority is flexible passenger space, the Honda Odyssey might be the right minivan pick. It has the sliding doors and ample cargo space that make all minivans versatile, but Honda's clever second-row seats slide sideways as well as forward and backward. This flexibility opens up numerous seating configurations to keep everyone as close or far apart as you need. When you're not taking advantage of the enormous cargo area behind the third row, the wayback seats can flip backward, making the perfect bench for tailgate parties.
Clever tech features include an intercom system that makes it easy to chat with rear passengers, and higher trim levels supplement that with an in-cabin camera system to keep an eye on everyone. Another standout quality of the Odyssey is that it's genuinely pleasant to drive. The standard V6 has plenty of power, and the suspension smooths out bumps and keeps things steady to help everyone on board avoid carsickness. The Odyssey's biggest drawbacks are the lack of a fuel-friendly hybrid and all-wheel drive for slippery conditions, two things you can get from rival minivans.
Model highlights

Widely available advanced driver-assist systems
Available intercom and rear seat camera
Pleasant driving experience
Third row doubles as a tailgating bench
Tons of cargo and interior storage
Fourth generation Honda Odyssey
The fourth-generation Honda Odyssey remains a solid choice for budget-minded folks who need the flexible seating and cargo of a minivan. Available from 2011 through 2017, with a notable refresh in 2014, the Odyssey is an older van that nails the basics. There's plenty of power from the V6 engine, and the suspension strikes a winning compromise between providing a comfortable ride while controlling the van's body in turns and on big bumps to help combat carsickness. Upper trim levels benefit from a rear-seat entertainment screen, leather seats, and a pretty good audio system
The fourth-generation Odyssey's technology isn't exactly modern, though. Forward collision and lane departure warning were available on EX-L and higher trims starting in 2014, but more advanced tech like adaptive cruise was never offered. Honda did include its passenger-side camera system on some models and blind-spot monitoring on top-tier trims. Additionally, the audio system doesn't offer modern smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, although there are USB and auxiliary inputs to help you stream music.
