Want a Mini Cooper with an extra dose of practicality? You're in luck. The 2024 Mini Cooper Countryman keeps the playful energy of the two-door Cooper and adds a little more room for passengers and cargo.
The stylish compact crossover is both the largest model offered by Mini and one of the smallest SUVs you can buy. Its size makes the Mini Cooper Countryman less practical than rival SUVs, but it is more fun to drive and easier to fit into tight parking spaces.
That said, the front seats can be a bit confining and the back seat is still not a place where most adults will want to spend much time. With 17.6 cubic feet of cargo space, the Countryman has more than the Cooper but less than competitors like the Audi Q3 (23.7 cubes). Also, keep in mind that all Minis require premium fuel.
Fun driving experience: Yes, the Mini Cooper Countryman is larger than the classic Cooper. But its practicality doesn't come at the expense of fun-to-drive dynamics. The Countryman isn't exactly quick, but it's more than capable of navigating curvy roads.
Relatively comfortable: If you've ever been in a Mini before, nothing about the Countryman's on-road comfort will surprise you. If you haven't, you may find the ride a bit stiff. Still, compared to other sporty, compact vehicles, it handles itself pretty well.
Interior controls: There are a lot of physical buttons and switches inside the Countryman and they're easy to reach and simple to figure out. The screen is on the small side for a modern vehicle, but the more analog experience can be a treat for those who don't want a giant computer in their face.
Storage: The 17.6 cubic feet of storage you'll get in a Mini Cooper Countryman is an improvement over the standard Cooper, but it's a far cry from the competition. If you want more storage, you'll want to look at a larger SUV.
