The 2024 Toyota Corolla Hatchback is a great choice for a daily commuter vehicle, or for errands around the city as an alternative mode of transportation to a large SUV. A drive mode selector with options for Eco and Sport modes is new for this model year, enabling you to tailor your drive to suit your mood. The continuously variable transmission with paddle shifters gives you more control from the start. This review does not include the 2024 Toyota GR Corolla, as it has limited availability and vastly different specifications than the SE and XSE models.
The 2024 Corolla Hatchback offers responsive steering and a stable ride around turns and corners. The 2.0L, four-cylinder 169-hp dynamic force engine will average an EPA-estimated 35 combined mpg. You'll get added control over the driving experience with the paddle shifting of the continuously variable transmission (CVT). You can also switch from Normal driving mode to Eco mode to maximize fuel use, or Sport mode for sharper acceleration.
Even though the 2024 Toyota Corolla Hatchback offers more storage space than its sedan counterpart—17.8 cu ft vs 13.1 cu ft—fewer hatchback models are available than in past years. This Corolla Hatchback is simply more fun to drive than the specifications would have you believe, and the SE Nightshade's road presence is something to behold.
If you are seeking a "hot hatch" with even sleeker styling and a turbo-boosted engine, check out the Corolla GR Premium, Core, and Circuit Editions. They are only available in limited quantities and cost more, but the driving experience is on another level relative to the base Corolla Hatchback.
Driver-assist features, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, traction control, stability control, and anti-lock brakes, are all standard. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional on the SE and SE Nightshade models; however, the 2024 Corolla Hatchback offers excellent visibility through all of its windows. LED headlights and tail lights improve your visibility when you are behind this Corolla's steering wheel.
The 2024 Corolla SE Nightshade brings back many of the black-out body paint accents that make this hatchback look sleeker and sportier. This model's copper-coated 18-in alloy wheels gives the Corolla Nightshade an even stealthier appearance. The SE Nightshade trim level looks sporty with its two-tone roof and available vented sport wing spoiler.
You will find a lot to like in the 2024 Toyota Corolla Hatchback: its comfortable ride, responsive steering, and eight-inch touchscreen-controlled multimedia system. It is optimized for transportation of three to four passengers, even though it has seating for five. If expanding beyond 17.8 cu-ft of cargo volume is more important to you than a spare tire, some models offer more cargo space without the spare wheel storage.
