The 2020 Honda Accord feels a cut above its competitors in looks, features, and the driving experience

The 2020 Honda Accord is easily one of the best cars in its class of mainstream, midsize sedans. The Accord comes very well equipped with even base models featuring standard advanced driver assist systems such as automatic emergency braking. Additionally, all but the lowest-end LX come equipped with a touchscreen audio system with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration.

The key to Accord’s segment-leading character is not features, but how it feels, looks, and drives. The styling is reminiscent of more expensive luxury sedans, and the interior backs that up with upscale touches like open-pore look wood trim. Drivers will find the Accord rewarding to drive, with quick steering, sporty handling and strong brakes, all while maintaining a comfortable ride around town. The Accord is a little louder inside than its competition, and testing by our partners at Edmunds shows the Accord’s real-world fuel economy falls short of EPA estimates, but those are minor nitpicks against an otherwise very satisfying sedan.

5 reasons to buy the 2020 Honda Accord

What We Like

Upscale Feel: Honda’s Accord is one of those cars that never makes you feel like you missed out by avoiding a luxury brand. Instead, the styling, interior trim and materials, and the overall driving experience imparts the feeling of a more expensive car, and it’s one of the best things about the Accord.

Performance: On paper, the Accord’s performance is average for the class in terms of acceleration and other metrics. But how the Accord goes about its business elevates it. The engine responds quickly and smoothly to provide more power when you need it, in corners the Accord sticks to the road with no drama, and the brakes are easy to control for smooth stops. The steering, though accurate and easy, doesn't give you much feel for the road.

Storage: Honda’s reputation for efficient space management is on display in the Accord, starting with excellent trunk volume that’s the same regardless of whether you choose a standard Accord or the Hybrid. Inside, the huge center console bin and cubby in the dash are just the start of the plentiful areas to stash small items. Families will appreciate the easy access car seat anchors in the rear.

What Needs Improvement

Fuel Economy: While the Accord tries mightily to keep engine revs low to save on fuel, real-world testing by our partners at Edmunds shows that Accord models don’t quite match their EPA fuel economy estimates, including the Hybrid. Other cars in its class generally come much closer.
