Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring

Although the acceleration and braking is exceptionally smooth.; the driver assist systems on the sport touring model need siognificant improvement and are often more of a hazard than a help.

Pros

  • Cabin Noise: Great sound system and very quiet in the cabin at all speeds. Ideal for listening to books or music.
  • Fuel Economy: 38 - 40 mpg around town is great for an AWD car. Mileage drops down to the low 30s at 65 mph and upper 20s for sustained speeds of 80mph.

Cons

  • Technology and Entertainment: The car has a poorly conceived driver assist system that is difficult to shut off. The automatic cruise control shuts off at freeway speeds when passing large trucks. The vehicle often reacts to items alongside the road (trash cans, mailboxes etc) as if they were in the lane of traffic. Causing the driver alert systems to activate (steering wheel shakes, crash warning light flashes). Honda clearly has some work to do on their detection systems and I'm hoping for a software update. If this persists without remedy I will sell the car. I bought the car with 2000 miles on it, I suspect the first owner was also annoyed by these systems.
  • Ride and Handling: Steering gets very stiff at speeds over 40 mph. This takes some getting used to and is likely a result of the steering assist systems. I would much prefer a lighter feel on the wheel for long drives on windy roads.

Excellent Light Duty Pickup Truck

Well built, reasonably well equipped, surprisingly good fuel economy, better than expected, versatile package for both passengers and cargo.

Pros

  • Cargo Space: massive, lockable in bed trunk, composite steel reinforced cargo bed, rear seat folds up for excellent interior cargo space.
  • Fuel Economy: Fuel economy is surprisingly better than expected - 24 mpg around town, 27 on the highway.
  • Ride and Handling: Very comfortable ride around town - very maneuverable - even in tight spaces; excellent over the road, long distance cruiser.

Cons

  • Technology and Entertainment: Radio is okay - nothing special. No CD player.
  • Styling: Sun roof - which I do not use and did not want, but there is no opt out at this trim level.
  • Power: Not really a "power" issue; plenty of power - but Ridgeline is equipped with auto stop/start, which I HATE! Major PIA!
