great car this is my second crosstrek and this one is better than the first one great gas mileage great ride even on long trips. very dependable and low maintenance.

The 2022 Crosstrek Base with EyeSight has three things going for it that won me over when prioritizing practicality: 1. It shares a lot of parts with previous generations of the Crosstrek making it less expensive to repair damaged parts (e.g. an accident) - lower insurance cost 2. It has reasonable safety accommodations for a car of its era, and even though Subaru historically lags in technology features, it has always prioritized practical safety. Most of the safety features offered on this trim level are nonexistent on the equivalent trim levels of most other manufacturers and are present courtesy of Subaru's partnership with Toyota. - lower insurance cost 3. The ride height and maneuverability of this vehicle, combined with an excellent all-wheel drive system mean I don't get stuck whether the obstacle is mud, high water (within reason), rough dirt roads (which I can take at a considerably higher speed than can be done in most cars), or a high curb that I have to drive over to get out of a going-nowhere traffic jam. - functionality that makes me a more dependable person This car is preem. This is my second Crosstrek, and unless I upgrade to an Outback or get a small truck, my next car will likely be another Crosstrek.

Pros

Cost to Maintain: For a car of its size, and considering it has all-wheel drive, this car is super cheap to operate. Not Honda Fit (the best small car ever) nor Toyota Corolla cheap, but they can't be driven over rocky paths or pot-hole-ridden streets at 35 mph without falling prey to the terrain. The Crosstrek proceeds without difficulty or hesitation.
Ride and Handling: All. Wheel. Drive. At a reasonable price. If you've not experienced the confidence of driving an AWD vehicle over wet highways, you have no idea what I'm talking about. If you keep your tires and suspension maintained, hydroplaning is not a thing in this car.
Braking: I've been in two other cars which had braking that surprised me. A Ferrari F40, and the 2007 Honda CR-V. Everything has else performed as expected. In this car, if you have to brake hard, you'll be grateful your seatbelt is on. When you tell it to stop, it will do so rather quickly. Don't worry though, it will start beeping frantically at you before you need to slam on the breaks.

Cons

Cargo Space: The all-wheel drive takes up a lot of space and that shows in the lack of cargo space. This car is for transporting people, not things (unless you put it on the roof)
Cabin Noise: All. Wheel. Drive. Beefy drive train comes with higher ride height and tires with more volume. That means more noise. Crank up the tunes or talk louder to drown it out.
Fuel Economy: All-wheel drive and high ride height work against you here. Friction is not a friend of efficiency and these two factors increase mechanical and aerodynamic friction, respectively. Fuel economy is about 15% lower than a comparably-sized car with an equivalent trim level. Take the bad with the good. I average about 31 mpg with comfort settings and a casual driving style, an even mix of city and highway motoring. This is reasonable, but most cars of the same year can get around 35-38 mpg with similar settings and driving style. You can do better, but not without taking your sweet time and upsetting other motorists.
