Fully redesigned for model year 2019, Audi’s Q3 kicks off the third generation of the brand’s popular crossover. It’s longer to make more room inside, and along with increased power, the Q3 offers significant improvements over the previous year. Picking up modern design cues from the techy all-electric e-tron, the 2019 Q3 is a little sharper and edgier than before.
The 2019 Q3 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, routing power through an eight-speed transmission to standard all-wheel drive. The engine is the same size as before but gets a notable increase in horsepower and torque to make the 2019 Audi Q3 feel more responsive than ever before.
Audi smartly updated the Q3’s technology as well, with a new 8.8-inch touchscreen with standard smartphone integration, and available features like a digital instrument panel. These updates bring it closer to its competition, such as the BMW X1 and the Volvo XC40.
Technology: Standard tech features in the 2019 Q3 include an 8.8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration, and USB ports in front and back to please passengers throughout the cabin. Stepping up to the Prestige S trim means the addition of a fully digital instrument panel, ambient cabin lighting, surround-view camera system, larger touchscreen, and a navigation system.
Driving: Step lightly on the gas pedal and the Q3 responds quickly and smoothly, accelerating nicely. Engineered for comfort, not excitement, the Q3 provides a ride that is as silky as a canoe gliding through still waters. It’s more energetic and perky than the previous model year, and the 2019 Q3 delivers the mechanically sound experience drivers expect from the brand.
Interior: Audi uses high-gloss black trim in its sleek and up-to-date cabin. Heated leather seats are standard fare as well as a panoramic sunroof that lets natural light pour in and illuminate the cabin. With the top-of-the-line Prestige S Line trim, riders are treated to ambient lighting and a premium Bang & Olufsen® sound system that takes the whole experience up a notch.
Utility: One reason crossovers are popular is because they offer some of the same features as their larger SUV cousins and are easier to park. In the 2019 Q3, a flat loading floor is a boon for loading cargo, but limited cargo dimensions stop it short of greatness.
