The 2023 model year marks the end of the road for Dodge’s four-door muscle sedan
The 2023 Dodge Charger is a full-size sedan with models ranging from a polite everyday commuter car to a hold-on-tight muscle machine. This model year marks the end of the road for the Charger as we know it, ending a run that’s lasted more than a decade.
Headlining the changes is a swan-song Charger SRT® Redeye Jailbreak, with more than 800 horsepower. However, the rest of the lineup, while considerably tamer, has multiple charms, such as available all-wheel drive for V6 models, and the EPA-estimated 25 mpg highway fuel economy isn’t bad for R/T models with the 5.7-liter V8. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov.
Inside the Charger has roomy seats and plenty of space in back for adults. The ride is comfortable, although it’s firmer in performance models with sport suspensions and larger wheels. After more than a decade, the interior materials feel behind the times, but the seven-inch and available 8.4-inch infotainment screens deserve praise for their clarity and ease of use.

What We Like
Performance: An American sedan with a top speed in excess of 200 mph? You'd better believe it. When fitted with its optional supercharged HEMI® V8, the Charger is a road rocket with ferocious acceleration.
Retro design: The Charger can be kept relatively understated, though where's the fun in that? Racing stripes, funky exterior graphics, large alloy wheels, and eye-searing paint choices with fun names like Plum Crazy (purple) are part of the throwback appeal of the Charger.
Cabin comfort, cargo volume: With all the talk about performance, it’s easy to forget how livable the Charger is on a daily basis. The front and rear seats are amply cushioned, the trunk is large, and the suspension takes the edge off bumps and potholes.
What Needs Improvement
Overdue for replacement: Don’t get us wrong, we love the Charger for being a large, old-school performance sedan. But this generation has been around more than 10 years and is due for a complete overhaul.
