You don’t need a pickup. The heavy-duty work you need to get done can be accomplished with ease by the 2022 GMC Savana 3500. With powerful engines and huge cargo capacity (or impressive passenger capacity), it’s the work truck alternative you should consider. It’s not all rough around the edges either, as the Savana 3500 can be found with niceties such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel and high-tech driver assistance features. If you work hard and play hard, the Savana 3500 is your ideal tool.
Unlike the Savana 1500 and 2500, the range-toping 3500 offers extended-length chassis in either a passenger or cargo configuration. This adds nearly two feet in length to the exterior, and inside, you’ll notice passenger capacity increases from 12 to 15. On the cargo van side, maximum cargo volume increases from 239.4 cu-ft to 287 cu-ft. Keep in mind, that while the extended length adds to cargo volume, it does reduce the maximum towing capacity of the diesel I4 and gas V6 by 200 lbs. Maximum estimated towing capacity of extended length I4 and V6 Savana 3500 is of 6,000 lbs and 7,200 lbs respectively, when properly equipped.
Worried about the weight of all your welding equipment? Don’t be, as the Savana 3500 can haul 4,280 lbs in its covered cargo area. With the 6.6L V8 and optional towing package, the 2022 GMC Savana 3500 standard length has an estimated maximum towing capacity of 10,000 lbs when properly equipped.
The base LS trim has the basics covered with standard air conditioning (front and rear), cruise control, a tilt steering wheel, power locks and windows, a sound system, and cruise control. LT trim fills in the gaps with remote start, keyless entry, and driver assistance tech.
Whether hauling the extended family on an epic road trip adventure or just hauling the work crew over potholed streets, the GMC Savana 3500 insulates your passengers with a soft ride. The heavy-duty suspension floats over bumps, making for a surprisingly smooth experience. The seats in the passenger version offer all-day comfort, and you won’t have to hear, “Are we there yet?” since the kids will all be asleep.
Every version of the GMC Savana 3500 has wide-opening rear “barn doors,” and a passenger side door with a 60/40 split swing-out design, or an optional sliding (minivan style) side door that allows easy loading of large cargo. The entire floor is optionally waterproof rubberized vinyl or spray-in bedliner. Both floors have standard cargo tie-downs. Look for the available Assist Steps for even easier cargo loading/unloading.
