The Hyundai Ioniq 6 stands out as an electric sedan with a body sculpted for efficiency. The resulting rounded look is part Porsche, part 1990s Infiniti J30. The slippery design gives the car a coefficient of drag as low as 0.21, making it one of the most streamlined cars on the market. It offers rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, three levels of horsepower and two battery packs. It also boasts a user-friendly interface, highlighted by twin 12.3-inch display screens, and it comes with a full suite of driver-assist features.

First generation Hyundai Ioniq 6

A five-passenger sedan on Hyundai’s E-GMP architecture, the Ioniq 6 is one of the most efficient EVs on the market. In Edmunds testing, it scored 27.5 kWh per 100 miles, handily beating the EPA estimate; note that in EV efficiency, smaller numbers are better.

Powertrain options, battery size, rear- or all-wheel drive, and wheel size all affect the Ioniq 6’s range, which spans the spectrum from 240 miles to 342 miles.

Buyers can get a low-power RWD Standard Range model with a rear motor, a 53-kWh battery, and 240 miles of range.
Moving up to the RWD model with the larger 77.4-kWh battery brings more power and up to 342 miles of range. Opting for all-wheel drive, larger 20-inch wheels, or even more power all have negative effects on the range.

An advanced 800-volt electrical architecture allows the Ioniq 6 to charge quickly, taking just 18 minutes to go from 10% to 80% on a 350-kilowatt DC fast charger. An 11-kW onboard charger lets it charge from 0 to 80% in less than seven hours on a Level 2 home charger.

A healthy list of driver-assist features comes standard, and buyers can pay more to get a surround-view camera system.
