First generation Jeep Patriot
Jeep introduced the Patriot in 2007 as a new compact SUV, sharing a platform with the also-new Jeep Compass and Dodge Caliber. The five-passenger crossover came standard with front-wheel drive—unusual for a Jeep—but featured classic Jeep design cues and offered available all-wheel drive and even an available low-range gear ratio for off-road use. Sport and Limited were the two trims available at launch, and while the Sport was inexpensive, it didn’t include some basic features, like power windows or air conditioning. In 2009, Jeep updated the interior with higher-quality trim and the available Uconnect® infotainment system.
Two engines were available when the Patriot launched. The Jeep came standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, front-wheel drive, and a manual gearbox, while the Sport in front-wheel-drive form was available with a less expensive 2.0-liter engine. Both engines were available with a continuously variable transmission, but Jeep added a six-speed automatic in 2014. The Patriot was offered with the Freedom Drive II package, which added hill descent control, all-terrain tires, skid plates, and a brake-lock differential system to enhance the small Jeep’s all-wheel-drive system.
