2022 Kia Telluride keeps midsize SUV rivals on their toes

It's not really surprising the Kia Telluride—a spacious, capable, high-quality midsize SUV—has shaken things up since it arrived in 2020. A redesigned grille featuring Kia's new badging is new for 2022, and all four trim levels offer slightly enhanced equipment. The Telluride is a good choice for bigger families—it can carry as many as eight people in its three rows and still offer decent space for luggage. It's powered by a 3.8-liter V6 with 291 hp that uses an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is an option.

Kia's value-packed offering means even the entry-level LX trim comes comprehensively equipped, including features such as keyless entry and push-button start, simulated leather upholstery, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. The S brings 20-inch alloy wheels, a standard sunroof, and a pair of captain's chairs in the second row instead of a bench. The EX teems with luxury features, including ventilated power front seats, sound-absorbing glass, and leather upholstery, and the top-of-the-line SX comes fully loaded with comfort and convenience features. 2022 adds an optional Nightfall Package available on the EX and SX that offers black-painted exterior trim and wheels. Impressively, every trim level gets Kia's full suite of standard safety features as well as an industry-leading 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. The Telluride is a very strong contender among midsize SUVs, and it's even better for 2022.

5 reasons to buy the 2022 Kia Telluride

1. The standard driver aids

The 2022 Kia Telluride has a great roster of standard driver assistance features. Commuter drivers will appreciate the lane keeping, following, and departure aids, which are handy for navigating multi-lane highways into the city. Busy junctions and shared lanes can be a lot to deal with if you're running family errands or are tasked with multiple client appointments for work. The 2022 Telluride's forward and rear collision avoidance assist will support such journeys.

2. A formidable V6 engine

A power-packed engine is an SUV essential. All 2022 Telluride models feature a 3.8L V6 that delivers 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, though drivers regularly facing adverse conditions may wish to switch to the optional all-wheel drive. Acceleration is smooth, while the idle, stop and start feature (that helps manage your fuel economy) is precise and discreet. In its standard configuration (3.8L V6, FWD), the 2022 Telluride achieves an EPA-estimated 23 mpg combined.

3. The Nightfall Edition

If you're looking for next-level highway presence, why not spring for the Telluride Nightfall edition? An aesthetic option package for the EX and SX trims, the Nightfall Edition delivers a black-on-black exterior finish. The package includes black roof rails, black skid plates, 20-inch gloss-black alloy wheels, black bezels, and a black grille. With privacy glass as standard for all rear-row windows, this package will make you and your crew feel like megastars on the move.

4. Comfortable and connected

With seating for up to eight in the 2022 Telluride, keeping your family and friends happy when they travel with you is bound to be a priority. The 2022 Telluride has subtle and straightforward features that ensure everyone is cared for. Entry and exit are easy; the second row features one-touch slide-and-fold access to the third row. All rows have USB ports and cupholders as standard, with a wireless smartphone charging pad available for the S trim and above.

5. Mid-size dimensions, full-size feeling

The Telluride makes excellent use of its mid-size dimensions. Large windows as standard and a sunroof from the S trim and above keep you connected to your environment on sunny days and starry nights. Adults are generously accommodated across all rows—legroom for the second and third rows are 42.4-inches and 31.4-inches, respectively. Cargo space behind the third row is a nifty 21.0 cu-ft, jumping to 46.0 cu-ft behind the second row and 87.0 cu-ft behind the front row. Those rear rows are both fold-flat, making those college moves for your older kids a cinch.
