The Toyota Camry is one of the most popular cars in America, and the hybrid powertrain made this sedan more desirable. The Camry’s cabin provides plenty of space for front and rear passengers, and higher trims have an upscale feel with real wood and leather upholstery. A seven-inch touchscreen display came standard, as did Android Auto™, Apple CarPlay®, and Amazon Alexa, while a nine-inch screen with a seven-inch digital gauge cluster was also available. Following the discontinuation of the Camry Hybrid as a specific model in 2024, the next-generation Camry came exclusively as a hybrid.

Third generation Toyota Camry Hybrid

The 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid launched as part of the Camry’s eighth generation, which arrived with a sleek new exterior design. Aside from the hybrid badge on the rear, the Camry Hybrid is almost indistinguishable from its non-hybrid sibling, which was a good thing given the Camry’s immense popularity. Inside, the Camry Hybrid featured a unique dashboard design with curving lines that formed a center section highlighted by the seven-inch touchscreen display. Integrated climate controls, along with physical buttons and knobs, made the system easy to use.

Powering the third-generation Camry Hybrid was a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine teamed with an electric motor driving the front wheels. While the engine carried over from its predecessor, the new-generation Camry Hybrid made slightly more horsepower. According to the EPA, the Camry Hybrid LE attained an estimated 52 mpg combined, giving it a driving range of almost 700 miles.

The Camry Hybrid also received an updated suspension to provide a smoother ride over rough pavement.

Second generation Toyota Camry Hybrid

It can be challenging to redesign one of the most popular passenger cars in America, but Toyota was up to the task when it introduced the second-generation Camry Hybrid (seventh-generation Camry). With a more chiseled look and wider stance, the new design gave the midsize sedan a more modern look. Toyota offered the Camry Hybrid with limited driver-assist features, including a rearview camera and blind-spot monitoring. Adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning were offered in 2015, with available automatic emergency braking added in 2017.

The Camry Hybrid featured a 2.5-liter engine paired with an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission to deliver 200 horsepower—a healthy boost over its predecessor and considerably more than the non-hybrid four-cylinder Camry. All Camry Hybrids came with front-wheel drive and EPA estimates as high as 40 mpg combined,

making it one of the most fuel-efficient family cars in America.
