The Toyota RAV4 is among the top-selling compact SUVs on the market and has been for years. The RAV4 Hybrid offers excellent utility and value, making it a favorite of customers.
For 2023, the RAV4 Hybrid received an upgraded Toyota Audio Multimedia infotainment system, along with an all-digital instrument display. Also, Toyota added a new rugged Woodland trim level to the existing six-trim lineup. The 2023 RAV4 Hybrid was available in a wide variety of trim and equipment levels, from the basic LE through the luxury Limited trim. Each trim step cost about $1,000 when these vehicles were new, so there’s very little reason not to shop for top trims now.
The main attraction of the RAV4 Hybrid is its fuel economy. That’s EPA-estimated at 41 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway, with a combined rating of 40 mpg. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Actual mileage will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info. When you put that on top of the generally nice execution throughout this SUV, you get a great value for your money.
Engine performance: On top of the excellent fuel economy, the RAV4 Hybrid is a little quicker to accelerate than the basic gas-engine RAV4. The electric motor in the hybrid system adds a good amount of power right when you need it, and that makes this hybrid a little more exciting to drive than the standard RAV4.
Storage capacity: The RAV4 Hybrid's cargo hold is one of the largest among compact SUVs. The load floor is low, which makes loading heavy items easy. The RAV4 Hybrid offers the same 37.5 cubic feet of luggage space as the standard RAV4. Tie-down hooks and a 12-volt power outlet enhance the hybrid's utility.
Technology: Audio and navigation controls are easy to use thanks to the new Audio Multimedia system’s large tablet-style display. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration is standard. Voice commands can handle basic phone, audio, and navigation functions but work better after you’ve spent time with the setup wizard, which learns your voice.
Braking feel: Toyota brakes are often criticized for a rubbery or soft feeling, and that’s the case with the RAV4 Hybrid. They’ll stop the RAV4 as well as the brakes on any SUV, but they take some getting used to.
