The Audi Q8 e-tron is a luxury two-row midsize electric SUV with a slightly confusing nomenclature. It is not an electric version of the larger, gas-powered Audi Q8 SUV. Instead, the Q8 e-tron is a new name for the former Audi e-tron SUV, and it also received a host of significant updates. It competes with other luxury EVs such as the BMW iX, the Mercedes EQS SUV, and the Tesla Model X. The Q8 e-tron Sportback has a sloping roofline that gives up space in favor of sleeker looks and it is covered separately.
In addition to the name change, the 2024 Audi Q8 e-tron gets revised front and rear bumpers, plus new wheels that make the vehicle more aerodynamic. The Q8 e-tron also gains a higher-capacity battery, an upgraded electric motor, and faster charge times. The vehicle's range has greatly improved as a result: The Environmental Protection Agency estimates it now gets 285 miles on a single charge (up from about 226 miles). Range figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new and assume a full battery charge. Range will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info.
Comfortable seats: The front seats are easy to adjust and settle into for the long haul. They nicely balance support with a cushy feel and provide multiple adjustments. The rear seats are slightly less contoured because they need to fold, but they still offer a pleasant backrest angle, good comfort, and support.
Quiet cabin: All EVs go about their business making less noise since they don't have an engine, but that can sometimes lead to more pronounced noises everywhere else. Not so in the Q8 e-tron. It does a great job of hushing wind and road noise, and the aerodynamic improvements have led to an even quieter cabin. It's not quite a sound-deprivation chamber, but it helps conversations and music stand out better while driving.
Impressive climate control: The Q8 e-tron comes standard with a quad-zone system, so even the rear passengers have their own controls and multiple vents. It's a very powerful system that gets to work quickly, which isn't always the case with the climate controls in electric vehicles. It also manages temperatures well if you set and forget a certain temperature using the auto setting. Some models add in very effective heated and cooled seats, so keep an eye out for those.
Distracting digital buttons: The infotainment and climate control systems rely too heavily on touchscreen interfaces. They may look cool, but in practice, they feel like a step back in ease of use, especially when you're trying to concentrate on driving. The digital instrument panel is highly adjustable, but it does have a high learning curve. We wouldn't recommend making changes to it while on the road.
