Audi’s 2022 SQ7 is a three-row family SUV with a V8 under the hood. What’s not to like? Refined and stylish, the SQ7's good looks on the outside compliment the powerful 500-horsepower turbo V8 engine inside, making this SUV a winner. Kudos to Audi for making a vehicle that checks all the boxes from comfort to acceleration to utility, including the option to tow up to an estimated 7,700 pounds when properly equipped. Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories.
The 2022 SQ7 is like harnessing a regal lioness. It’s large and lithe, with the handling prowess you might expect from a much smaller Audi. Available in two well-equipped trims, the SQ7 comes with all-wheel drive, upgraded brakes, and an adaptive sport suspension for a drive experience that doesn’t disappoint. For this model year, Audi added adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assistance as standard fare on the base Premium trim. Plus the SQ7 delivers comfort and elegance with leather upholstery, four-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof that floods the cabin with light. All in all, this is a stellar SUV with a lot to offer.
Comfort: Highly adjustable heated leather seats are standard in the 2022 SQ7. Top-level Prestige trim models add ventilation for the front seats and heat for the second row, and dual-pane acoustic glass muffles road noise. An optional Luxury package layers on a faux suede headliner, massaging front seats, and more leather throughout the cabin. Under all of that, the adjustable suspension cushions the ride.
Technology: Audi amps up the tech inside the SQ7, centered around the sharp dual-touchscreen infotainment displays. Navigation is included as standard, and the infotainment sound runs through a high-quality Bang & Olufsen® audio system. Wireless smartphone charging, a 360-degree camera, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and a lane keeping system are all included on the base model.
Performance: At 5,300 pounds, the SQ7 carries some heft. Yet, it moves like a performance car, reaching 60 mph in less than 4 seconds. It also handles very well, nimbly tackling curves and corners without breaking a sweat. The steering is responsive and light, conveying the edges of the SQ7’s limits. Want to bring a camper or boat along? The SQ7 is capable of towing an estimated 7,700 pounds when properly equipped.
Third-row room: As generous as Audi is with space for front- and second-row passengers, the third row leaves something to be desired. In fairness, Audi’s not alone in this, but the SQ7’s small third row is a children-only space, especially for longer trips. Audi seems to understand this, providing two sets of child seat anchors in the third row, unusual for the class.
