The 2022 Cadillac CT5, the successor to the Cadillac CTS, brings a heaping helping of advanced driver aids to the table, including the optional Super Cruise system, which allows for true hands-free driving on certain interstates and freeways (be aware you’ll still have to keep your eyes on the road). For 2022, Cadillac made lane-keep assist standard on the base Luxury trim, and adaptive cruise control standard on the Premium Luxury trim, where those features had previously been optional extras.
The Cadillac CT5 still doesn’t quite offer the range of features as competitors like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. It’s also a bit outclassed by European rivals in terms of overall build quality and refinement, not to mention passenger space. However, its available driver aids and approachable technology, along with its engaging driving experience, make it worth checking out.
Standard technology: The basic Luxury trim comes with wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto®, rear parking sensors, and a 10-inch touchscreen. For 2022, all other trim levels get a full suite of driver aids, including standard adaptive cruise control, along with front parking sensors.
Driving experience: The CT5’s accurate steering and well-tuned suspension make it more entertaining to drive than you might expect. And while it’s not a fully-fledged sport sedan, the available 335-horsepower V6 has plenty of oomph and can keep up with other 6-cylinder luxury cars.
Super Cruise: Hands-free driving is still a bit of a rarity, with only a handful of cars offering the option, and almost none offer hands-free driving at freeway speeds. Cadillac’s optional Super Cruise system can help take the sting out of freeway commutes and road trips by letting you take your hands off the steering wheel in certain circumstances.
Luxury feel: The materials in the CT5’s interior and the overall build quality of the interior lag behind European rivals like Mercedes-Benz and Audi. While the CT5 has plenty of strengths, it doesn’t make as strong of a luxury impression.
