The Cadillac XT6 is a midsize luxury three-row SUV that sits between the larger Escalade and the smaller XT5, the latter of which only has two rows. The XT6 competes with models such as the Acura MDX, the Lincoln Aviator, and the Volvo XC90. Notable XT6 highlights include easy-to-access seats, excellent visibility, and several of the brand's latest technology features.
The changes are minimal to the 2024 Cadillac XT6. Two new exterior paint colors were added (Emerald Lake Metallic and Midnight Sky Metallic), and new exterior accent packages are available in blue, bronze, and red.
Cadillac offers a pair of engines to choose from on the XT6. Edmunds found the base 235-horsepower four-cylinder to be underwhelming and instead recommends the 310-horsepower V6 engine. But even with the V6, the XT6 can feel a bit slow when accelerating up to highway speeds with a few passengers on board. Still, for those in search of a more fuel-efficient (and less expensive) alternative to the Escalade, the XT6 is worth checking out.
Storage space with rear seats down: The power flat-folding third-row seats are convenient and work quickly in the XT6. There are controls both at the cargo hatch and the rear passenger door. With the third-row seats in place, the cargo room is 12.6 cubic feet, but fold them down and cargo space increases to 78.7 cubic feet.
Visibility: The mirrors are mounted lower on the doors, which frees up that extra sail-shaped window by the front pillar. This makes it easier to judge where the hood ends, in addition to the front end being squared off. The view is unimpeded in the rear and the over-the-shoulder view is also pretty good. There's a fairly sizable rear roof pillar, but the 360-degree cameras are helpful in dealing with the obstruction.
Quiet cabin: Overall, the XT6 is as quiet as you’d expect for a luxury SUV. During testing, Edmunds found it to be as quiet as an Audi Q7 and slightly quieter than the Lincoln Aviator.
Towing capacity: This is one aspect where you might favor a Cadillac Escalade. The XT6 can tow up to 4,000 pounds with the smart trailering system; otherwise, it's 1,000 pounds (according to a third-party source). That would make it one of the lowest in its class, as most rivals offer a minimum of 3,500 pounds.
