The Chevrolet Corvette turns heads and is thrilling to drive

The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette is a two-passenger sports car that’s available in coupe and convertible body styles. A mid-engine layout means the Corvette’s snarling V8 engine is mounted behind the cabin, to provide ideal weight balance to give this speed machine razor-sharp reflexes.

The 2024 model year ushers in the hybrid-powered Corvette E-Ray. Its combination of a 6.2-liter V8 and electric motor sends 655 horsepower to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Yes, for the first time ever, the Corvette not only gets electrified but also has all-wheel drive.

The Corvette Stingray and Z06 models remain rear-wheel-drive and have power outputs of 490 hp and 670 hp, respectively. Performance is scintillating and the Corvette still turns heads after its comprehensive redesign for the 2020 model year.

5 reasons to buy the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette

What We Like

  • A sports car value: Calling the Corvette a bargain might seem strange at first. Yet compared to other rival sports cars, many of which have starting prices thousands of dollars higher, the Corvette is a veritable steal. The base model comes with removable roof panels, leather seating, and wireless smartphone connectivity. Even the standard Stingray will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in about 3.6 seconds.

  • Extroverted exterior: The engineering team at Chevrolet threw out its own sports car rulebook when it switched the Corvette from a front- to mid-engine format a few years back. Yet the end result speaks for itself. Not only is the Corvette incredibly quick, but it manages to turn heads like the finest (and priciest) supercars on sale today.

  • An all-season speed machine: We’re not suggesting you attack snowdrifts in your Corvette, though having all-wheel drive on the new E-Ray model adds an extra all-weather dimension to Chevy’s performance hero. The added grip is a perfect complement to this user-friendly sports car.

What Needs Improvement

  • No more manual transmission: The lack of a manual transmission on any version of the Corvette is a shame for driving enthusiasts who yearn to shift gears themselves. Yes, the eight-speed automatic is blazingly quick in how it operates. But the return of a manual gearbox would be most welcome in Chevrolet’s performance halo model.
