If you’re looking for a sleek sports car with style, the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider could be a great choice. New for 2017, and featuring a peppy 1.4L turbo engine in the base models, there’s also an Abarth version that dials performance up a notch. Regardless of which model you go for, the Fiat 124 Spider is well suited to long drives in the countryside or simply showing up for date night in style.
This good-looking convertible doesn’t look like every other two-seater roadster out there. There’s a distinct, yet retro, style to its swept-back headlamps and sloping hood. The convertible roof is manual but it’s so easy to operate you won’t mind — you can even do it with one hand.
The standard engine is a 160-hp 1.4L turbo. This is great for both city driving and getting up to speed on the highway. If you want a bit more power, take a look at the Abarth model, which boosts power to 164 horsepower thanks to the sports exhaust system. All models come standard with a manual transmission, which is great news if you want optimum control over shifting, but there’s an available automatic if you prefer.
If you want to stand out, the Fiat 124 Spider has you covered. Look out for beautiful brights such as Passion Red. Or there are more sophisticated shades such as Bronze Magnetico (a deep metallic brown) and Meteor Grey. Inside you’ll find standard black cloth upholstery on the Classica trim. Climb the trim levels, however, and you’ll find optional brown or black leather. The Abarth models can be found with either edgy two-tone red and black leather or black Alacantra® seating with red piping.
While it might not have a hugely powerful engine, this is still a lightweight roadster that makes the most of all 160 horsepower. The low-slung shape lends itself well to spirited cornering and there’s even a Sport driving mode on Abarth models. This makes the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider a great option if you want lots of fun in a small package.
Yes, it’s a sports car but its mpg is more similar to a compact car. Because of the Fiat 124 Spider’s lightweight construction and 1.4L turbo engine, it’s capable of an EPA-estimated 30 mpg combined in standard models. This makes it a practical daily if you’re more concerned with style and driving experience than carrying people and things.
