The 2023 Ford Expedition MAX embodies versatility and power, offering a spacious interior with seating for up to eight passengers and ample cargo room too. Powered by a robust V6 engine paired with a smooth 10-speed automatic transmission, you can be assured of confident road handling. This fourth generation (2018 onwards) Expedition MAX is a bold no-brainer for big groups wanting to travel in spacious style.
1. Cargo space for days
Say yes to every big adventure, the 2023 Expedition MAX is the versatile, supersized hero SUV you’ve been waiting for. Standard space behind the third row (XLT and above) is an already generous 34.3 cu-ft. Flip that row down and you’ll have 73.3 cu-ft for stowing outdoor sports equipment and camping gear. With both rear rows down, perhaps for a college dorm move, the 2023 Expedition MAX offers 121.5 cu-ft behind the front row seats.
For 2023, the Expedition MAX continues to offer turbocharged performance as standard. The exclusive engine choice, a 3.5L turbocharged V6, is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard rear-wheel drive. To fine-tune that setup, you do have a few options. Pick a model with optional four-wheel drive (all trims) to help you tackle adverse road or weather conditions, and you’ll also get drive modes for navigating grass, mud, snow, sand, and more.
With an array of standard and optional infotainment onboard, the 2023 Expedition MAX will quickly impress your passengers. All 2023 Expedition MAX models have wireless Apple CarPlay Apple Carplay® and Android Auto™ capability, alongside a 12.0-inch infotainment touchscreen (15.5-inch on highest trims). This combination ensures seamless connectivity to your crew's favorite beats and jams. For the Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum models, there's also an enhanced 12- or 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen® audio system.
Traveling with your crew is effortless in the 2023 Expedition MAX. Choose second-row seating for seven or eight (XLT and above) with a standard bench seat for three, or available captain's chairs for two. Your youngest passengers benefit from four standard sets of LATCH fixtures in the rear row's outboard seats. While for everyone else, there’s lots of space to stretch out, with generous legroom measurements of 43.9 inches up front, 41.5 inches in the second row, and 36.1 inches in the third.
The 2023 Expedition MAX has six trim levels, with seating options for five, seven, or eight passengers, allowing you to fine-tune the offering to your crew’s needs. Originally sold for fleet travel, the XL trim seats five. Move up to the XLT for eight seats across three rows and some great passenger conveniences, including tri-zone automatic climate control and 15 drink holders. Lock in the Timberline trim for more off-road functionality, or the Limited and King Ranch for additional luxury appointments. Exclusive to the range-topping Platinum trim is Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free system.
