For sprawling passenger and cargo space, not much can compare to the 2022 Ford Expedition MAX. Capable of seating up to eight passengers, across three rows, the potent V6 engine offers unwavering confidence on any road and added power off-road when equipped with 4WD. This iteration, part of the fourth generation (2018 onwards), is an obvious and upscale choice for big groups yearning for spacious and elegant travel solutions. For 2022, there is some refreshed exterior styling, an updated infotainment system, and the addition of the Timberline model trim.
1. Huge cargo numbers
Get ready to throw everything in, and still have space for more. The 2022 Expedition MAX is the hero SUV you’ve been waiting for. Behind your third row (XLT and above), the Expedition MAX has 34.3 cu-ft of fixed storage space. For serious hauling, open that up to 73.3 cu-ft by folding down the third row. How about an apartment move in a couple of trips? Fold down the second row too to reveal 121.5 cu-ft behind the front row seats.
All 2022 Expedition MAX models get turbocharged performance as standard. The sole engine option, a 3.5L turbocharged V6, is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard rear-wheel drive. If your regular journeys include tough conditions, four-wheel drive is also available and is offered alongside drive modes for snow, sand, grass, and more.
With five trims to choose from, you can take the 2022 Expedition MAX in whatever direction suits your driving style. For 2022, the MAX editions' XLT base trim seats eight as standard, and includes some great passenger conveniences, including tri-zone automatic climate control and a cooler box in the center console. Lock in the Timberline trim for more off-road capability, with standard 4WD and 10.6 inches of ground clearance. The Limited and King Ranch add luxurious finishing touches, while Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free system is exclusive to the range-topping Platinum trim.
Vacation road trips are a breeze with the 2022 Expedition MAX. Options for seven or eight seats are available for the XLT trim and above, you can choose second-row seating for two with captain's chairs or a bench seat for three. For families and caregivers, four full sets of LATCH fixtures in the rear-row outboard seats come standard. And when it's time to stretch out, the legroom has got you covered, with 43.9 inches up front, 41.5 inches for the second row, and 36.1 inches in the third.
This passenger-friendly SUV has plenty of standard and available tech to make your time on the road more enjoyable. All 2022 Expedition MAX models feature wireless Apple Carplay® and Android Auto™ functionality and a large infotainment touchscreen, allowing you to stay connected to your favorite podcasts, people, and playlists. From the XLT trim, you’ll get extra USB charging ports, and for the Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum models an upgraded Bang & Olufsen audio system too.
