Fourth generation Ford F250
The 2023 Ford F-250 arrived with fresh exterior styling, including the “c-clamp” LED accents in the headlights that closely match the look of its smaller sibling, the F-150. The spacious cabin features a new digital gauge cluster and an available 12-inch infotainment screen, and while entry trims have a fair amount of hard plastic, upper-level variants are outfitted with high-quality materials on par with those of a luxury vehicle. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are standard and have an available wireless connection.
While the updated styling gives the truck a fresh look, it’s the powertrain updates and improved capability that are likely of more importance to a Super Duty truck buyer. Four engines are available: two gas-powered V8s and two versions of the 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8. The range-topping high-output diesel V8 puts out 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque, giving the F-250 class-leading towing capability.

Third generation Ford F250
While the 2017 F-250 marked the third generation of this heavy-duty Ford truck, it was the first time since the Super Duty was introduced that it was all-new from the ground up. Like its F-150 sibling, the new F-250 featured aluminum body panels to balance the added weight of the heavier-duty frame. Besides added capability and an improved ride, the F-250 received a range of high-tech features, including new driver-assist features and towing aids with multiple camera views. The new Limited trim added in 2018 brought new levels of luxury to the lineup, boasting a panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, and exclusive two-tone leather trim.
Two engines were offered in the F-250: a 6.2-liter V8 and a 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8, both carried over from the previous generation but tuned to deliver increased torque. Both engines were teamed with a six-speed automatic transmission. A more powerful 7.3-liter V8 was added to the mix in 2020, along with a 10-speed automatic and more torque for the turbodiesel engine.

Second generation Ford F250
The second-generation F-250 arrived in 2011 with updated styling that gave the big truck a bold look with design cues influenced by the half-ton F-150. However, the interior didn’t change much from the previous generation, with base-level trims featuring extensive hard plastic materials, a 40/20/40-split front bench seat, and a two-speaker radio. There were interior improvements for higher trims: The top-level King Ranch stood out with Chaparral leather upholstery as well as heated and ventilated front seats. A rearview camera was available, along with trailer sway control and an SOS post-crash alert system.
The second-generation F-250 received a significant upgrade under the hood with two new engines. A 6.2-liter V8 was standard, replacing the V10 from the previous generation, and a new 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8 was available, delivering a maximum towing capacity of 16,800 pounds when properly equipped.
The diesel received upgrades over the years, reaching 440 horsepower and 860 lb-ft of torque in 2015.Model highlights
