5 reasons to buy the 2016 Kia Forte

1. Choose-your-adventure engine options

The 2016 Kia Forte has three trims: the base LX, the mid-class EX, and the top-tier SX. The LX trim delivers 145 horsepower on a 1.8L, four-cylinder multi-point injection engine. The EX one-ups the base trim, delivering 173 horsepower on a 2.0L, four-cylinder gasoline direct injection engine. Last but not least, the SX — only available on the coupe and hatchback styles — kicks it up to 201 horsepower on a 1.6L, four-cylinder turbo engine with gasoline direct injection. In short, there’s something for everyone.

2. Decent fuel economy

Each of the three engine types and two transmissions have different EPA-estimated fuel economy stats. The 1.6L engine will get an EPA-estimated 24 mpg combined with the manual transmission and 25 mpg with the automatic.

The 2.0L engine, meanwhile, clocks 28 mpg combined on the automatic.
Last but not least, the 1.8L engine on the LX base trim performs best on fuel economy, delivering 30 mpg combined.

3. Packages add refinement

The LX Popular Package adds a few bells and whistles to the base trim (sliding center armrest, mirror turn signals, remote keyless entry, etc.) but it’s the EX and SX packages for the Koup and Forte5 that provide the most interesting add-ons. The EX/SX Premium Package includes a power sunroof, heated front seats, leather seat trim, and push-button start. The EX/SX Technology Package adds more refined taillights and headlights, plus a rear camera display, dual-zone temperature control, and Kia’s UVO eServices infotainment system.

4. Almost complete audio suite

The 2016 Kia Forte has Bluetooth® connectivity, an aux jack, and USB ports that let you plug your smartphone into the infotainment system’s seven-inch touchscreen (standard on SX, optional on LX and EX). The AM/FM radio, CD player, and SiriusXM® integration offer additional music and information options. As for the sound system itself, all trims come with four speakers; the LX has the option of adding two tweeters to the mix (standard on EX and SX).

5. Good steering and handling

The 2016 Kia Forte is a capable vehicle at its core. The Kia Forte EX sedan accelerates from zero-to-60 in 8.1 seconds, while the Forte5 with manual transmission can get there in 6.9 seconds. When it comes to steering and handling, all members of the 2016 Forte family use MacPherson struts, coupled torsion beam axles, monotube shocks, and electric power steering. Together, those components provide firm, responsive handling.
