Conservative styling with a sports-car soul

Talk about a wolf in sheep's clothing! This conservatively styled car houses a naturally aspirated V8 that will knock your socks off. Though the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG wears the guise of a compact car, it has the soul of a sports car with responsive handling and quick acceleration. The well-crafted interior utilizes high-end materials and has an impeccable fit and finish. If you want to have a little fun on your commute and only carry rear passengers occasionally, the C63 flies under the radar with its traditional Mercedes styling and compact proportions.

5 reasons to buy the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

1. Upgrade your power

On a great day, the 6.2L V8 in the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG delivers 451 horsepower, which makes this compact sedan a peppy little sportster. But for this model year, be on the lookout for the Edition 507 package that upgrades power to (you guessed it) 507 hp. This model will also get a specially designed hood, AMG wheels, a spoiler lip on the trunk lid, and red graphics on the AMG gauge cluster.

2. Precise handling

Whether you opt for the upgraded Edition 507 or not, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG will bring joy to your commute with its precise handling and sporty driving dynamics. The AMG seven-speed sports transmission boasts quick shifts and a direct-feel response as well as rev-matching. With four drive modes, you'll be able to dial into just the throttle response you're looking for — from controlled upshifts to higher revving and fast gear changes.

3. High-end interior

When you open the door to the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, the first things you'll notice are the three-spoke AMG sport steering wheel and the heavily bolstered sport seats, which speak to the overall sporting nature of this compact car. Outside of that, you'll see premium materials from the aluminum paddle shifters to the leather wrapping on the wheel to the standard leather seats. The analog gauges are timeless, and while the center stack is a bit busy, it's a nice break from screen fatigue with solid-touch buttons and dials for volume, audio, and HVAC controls.

4. Available driver-assistance tech

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG is a driver's car, and if you like being in control, you'll be happy to know there isn't a lot of standard driver-assistance technology on this model. However, if you like a little help from time to time, look for optional features such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, and park assist. Also keep an eye out for a rearview camera, which was optional in 2014.

5. Coupe or sedan body styles

If you need to carry more people or more things, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG gives you options. Similar to the rest of the C-Class, the C63 is available in both coupe or sedan body styles — with a caveat. The base C63 AMG is only available as a coupe, but the C63 AMG Edition 507 comes as a coupe or a sedan. If the trunk matters at all, take note that the sedan offers 12.4 cu-ft of space, whereas the coupe drops to 11.7 cu-ft.
