The Sentra has been in the Nissan lineup for almost 40 years, and the compact sedan came into its eighth generation in 2020. In a market dominated by SUVs and crossovers, Nissan has stuck with its little four-door sedan. That decision has paid off, as the Sentra remains one of Nissan's best-selling models. With styling that matches the rest of the Nissan sedan lineup, the Sentra offers reasonable performance at a low starting price. The Sentra comes into the 2023 model year unchanged from the previous year. Nissan offers the Sentra in three trim levels: S, SV, and SR. Given that it's one of the most affordable new cars in the U.S., the Sentra feels solid and well built. There’s a roomy interior with good storage in a comfortable cabin. There's even the option for premium quilted leather seats—quite surprising in an entry-level sedan.
Interior: The 2023 Nissan Sentra offers an impressive interior space for such a small car. There's good legroom and headroom up front, and the rear seat is one of the more spacious in the class. Seats are comfortable all around, with good padding and support. The cabin has good storage for water bottles and other small items, and it has multiple USB ports to keep devices charged.
Technology: The infotainment system in the Sentra is a bit dated, but it remains one of the more intuitive on the market. Static menu items provide easy access to phone and audio settings, with hard buttons and knobs for volume, tuning, and other menu items. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are standard on all Sentra variants. All Sentras have a long list of advanced driver-assist features, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and rear automatic braking.
Value: With a low starting price and a long list of standard features, the Nissan Sentra offers excellent value in the compact sedan market. The roomy cabin has an upscale appearance, with trim materials that don't feel cheap. With its attractive design, the Sentra delivers a lot for the money.
Performance: With a 2.0-liter engine putting out 149 horsepower, the Sentra is not very quick off the line. While Nissan's continuously variable transmission (CVT) is one of the better versions on the market, overall the engine and transmission don’t deliver satisfying performance. There is enough power to adequately get around town, but acceleration is mediocre, so getting up to highway speeds can take longer than desired.
