Nissan introduced the Sentra to its lineup almost 40 years ago, and this popular compact sedan remains one of the brand's best-selling models. The Sentra was last redesigned for the 2020 model year, when the model's eight generation was introduced with fresh styling inside and out. For the 2022 model year, Nissan added a new Midnight Edition Package to the Sentra SR, featuring black exterior trim, black V-Motion grille, and black 18-inch aluminum wheels. Also added for 2022 is an All-Weather package offered on the Sentra SV, which includes dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and remote start. The 2022 Nissan Sentra is available in S, SV, and SR trim levels, all powered by a 2.0-liter engine delivering 149 horsepower to the front wheels. All Sentra variants come well equipped with the latest advanced driver-assistance features and an intuitive infotainment system. The cabin of the Sentra is surprisingly roomy and comfortable, with materials that have a premium look.
Comfort: The Sentra is one of the more comfortable compact sedans on the market. Both front and rear seats provide good padding with nice support, and overall the cabin is surprisingly roomy. The ride is solid and stable, providing a smooth ride even when the road surface is less than ideal. While there is some road noise, it's not overly intrusive.
Technology: With either the seven- or eight-inch display screen (the larger screen is standard on upper trim levels), the infotainment system is older but still easy to use and navigate. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity is standard on all trim levels of the Sentra. Adaptive cruise control is optional; however, most advanced driver-assistance features, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and rear automatic braking, are standard across the board.
Storage: The Sentra features a relatively good-sized trunk for a compact sedan, with 14.3 cubic feet of storage space. Rear seats are split 60/40 and can be folded for added versatility, although they don't fold completely flat. The cabin has multiple storage options for water bottles and other small items.
Performance: The Sentra comes standard with a 149-horsepower engine that is adequate for most situations but delivers slow acceleration off the line. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) does not provide a very satisfying driving experience, although it is smoother than many competing models. Brakes are easy to modulate; however, in Edmunds road test, the emergency braking was found to be less than average.
