Porsche’s entry-level sports car had a major overhaul for 2017. Now dubbed the Porsche 718 (that’s “seven-eighteen”) Boxster, it comes with the choice of two new engine options that offer more power than outgoing models. On top of this you get the sports car refinement and handling you’d expect alongside beautiful attention to detail throughout.
The 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster is an all-new version of the well-loved sports car. With more powerful engines that complement the improved interior and a retuned suspension, the 2017 Boxster is a lot of fun. This is a great choice if you’re looking for a sports car with classic good looks and some serious fun factor. You also get plenty of creature comforts including standard Apple CarPlay® connectivity.
There are two choices of engine options for the 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster. The standard model has a 2.0L turbo with 300 horsepower or there’s the Boxster S model with its 2.5L turbo that puts out 350 horsepower. Even though it’s a sports car, the Boxster has surprisingly decent fuel economy. The base model gets an EPA-estimated 25 mpg combined while the S gets 24 mpg combined (both with the automatic gearbox).
There’s no denying that the 718 Boxster is a handsome car. It retains a lot of Porsche’s classic good looks with a few styling upgrades but you’ll appreciate the timeless convertible design. That soft top is also easier than ever to drop or put back up with a touch of a button and up to speeds of 31 mph. This is a vehicle you'll love to look back at.
The more powerful engine options add a lot of straight-line fun to the 2017 Boxster but where it shines is in its agility. With newly re-tuned power steering and suspension, this is a sports cat you’ll love to throw around country lanes. The mid-engine configuration gives it a composure that lends itself well to spirited drives — so much so that you’ll be the one offering to run errands.
The Boxster might be Porsche’s entry-level sports car but that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in class or features. The refined ride experience extends from how it handles through to the attention to detail found within the cabin. There’s plenty of storage inside and you get clever cupholders that pivot and unfold from the dash, maximizing the available space. You also get a small trunk at the front of the vehicle that measures 5.3 cu-ft with a trunk at the back that measures 4.4 cu-ft. That’s not bad for a roadster.
