2016 Volvo S80 review

1. Simple interior 

If you’re not up for a busy interior, the 2016 Volvo S80 is a great option. Its cabin is known for being simple while still maintaining its footing as a luxury car with loads of upscale materials. When you’re driving a flagship sedan, it should make the experience as easy as possible. The 2016 S80 does just that with plenty of standard and available driver-assist features. The S80 starts with standard low-speed automatic emergency braking, but it really shows off when you add options. Opting for the Technology Package adds more advanced features like a rearview camera, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection. Other options you can choose from include front and rear parking sensors and a blind-spot monitoring system. These features aren’t designed to replace attentive driving but can ease your daily commute.

The long list of standard features includes dual-zone automatic climate control, power front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Bluetooth^® connectivity, a seven-inch display screen, an eight-speaker audio system, and more. If this is not enough for you, the S80’s higher trims may be a better fit. They offer more upscale amenities such as a 12-speaker premium audio system, auxiliary audio inputs, the Volvo Sensus infotainment system, navigation, a programmable garage door opener, and more.  

5. Balanced base engine 

In 2016, Volvo eliminated the optional turbocharged 3.0L engine, leaving the 2.0L as the sole engine powering the S80. Fortunately, this is a well-balanced engine. It delivers a respectable 240 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission and out to the front wheels for a 6.6-second zero-to-60 mph time. This engine’s biggest benefit, though, is its EPA-estimated fuel economy of 25 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined.
