2019 Volvo S90 review

1. Balanced base powertrain 

The 2019 Volvo S90 has no shortage of powertrain options. Its base powertrain includes a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission and out to the front wheels or all four wheels. This powertrain’s big benefit is its EPA-estimated fuel economy of 23 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined.

2. Optional plug-in hybrid 

Want to drive on electricity without committing to a full-electric car? The Volvo S90 has a plug-in hybrid that’ll meet these needs. This setup pairs a supercharged and turbocharged version of the 2.0L with an electric motor for 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. This adds up to a wild 4.8-second sprint to 60 mph. This plug-in powertrain also gives you an EPA-estimated 21-mile all-electric range on a full charge and a 71 MPGe combined between the electric motor and gasoline engine.

3. Not a bad seat in the house 

The 2019 Volvo S90 can seat up to five people, and there’s not a bad seat in the house. The front and rear seats offer great padding and support, making long and short drives a treat. The front seats are plenty roomy, with 42.2 inches of legroom, and they have loads of adjustability to accommodate virtually anyone. The rear seats are nearly as roomy with 40.4 inches of legroom and have optional independent climate controls for even more comfort.  

4. Features galore

There’s also a standard semi-autonomous system that can pilot the car hands-free for a short period.
