The 2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge offers two powertrain options for the first time since the all-electric SUV debuted in 2021. This year's new single-motor Recharge offers an EPA-estimated 293 miles on a single charge. Range figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new and assume a full battery charge. Range will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info. The sportier dual-motor Recharge cuts your estimated range to 254 miles but amps up the already impressive acceleration. Range figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new and assume a full battery charge. Range will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. The 2024 XC40 also benefits from a higher-capacity battery than the previous year's model, which means more range. It also supports even faster charging, going from 10% to 80% capacity in about a half-hour when using the right fast-charging equipment.
Most controls in the XC40 Recharge, including air conditioning and heat, are located in the 12.3-inch touchscreen. The screen is relatively easy to use and features a Google-based interface. Apple CarPlay® also comes standard, and there are ample places to charge your phone, including four USB ports and a wireless charging pad.

What We Like
Acceleration: The single-motor XC40 Recharge offers just 248 horsepower, but don't be fooled: This SUV can really get up and go. Passing on highways is a breeze thanks to how rapidly this quick-footed SUV accelerates.
Quiet interior: Thanks to the electric motor and ample sound insulation, the XC40 Recharge is impressively quiet. The biggest upgrade from the gas-powered XC40 might be its electric counterpart's silent ride and the speedy supply of air conditioning or heat.
Technology onboard: Apple CarPlay® is standard, and the Google-based system that runs the touchscreen might have a few hiccups but should be intuitive for most people to use.
What Needs Improvement
Storage: The 20.4 cubic feet of storage space in the XC40 Recharge is a bit less than competitors offer. The Buick Encore GX, for example, is 4 inches shorter in length but offers 23.5 cubic feet of storage.
