The Audi A6 is suave, sophisticated, and packed with technology

The 2023 Audi A6 is a midsize luxury sedan with a sophisticated look and demeanor. Thanks to its standard all-wheel drive, the A6 has excellent grip in all weather conditions. Direct rivals include the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Lexus ES, and Genesis G80.

The A6 is available with enticing powertrains, including the standard 261-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder and a turbocharged V6. High-performance versions, including the S6 and RS 6, have even more power, and are covered separately, as is the off-road-themed A6 Allroad, designed for those who prefer outdoorsy adventures.

Available larger wheels and sport suspension settings firm up the otherwise supple ride, though not to the point that the A6 loses its composure on anything but perfectly smooth roads. Inside, the A6’s cabin is packed with tech and touchscreens that can seem intimidating at first but become logical and easy to use over time. The optional and futuristic Virtual Cockpit lets you customize the digital gauge cluster to display all sorts of useful information, such as navigation commands and music settings.

What We Like

Turbocharged engines: Even with its base turbo-four, the A6 gets down the road quickly and efficiently, returning an EPA-estimated 27 mpg combined city/highway average. The punchier 335-hp turbo V6 is tempting, in part because it delivers speedier acceleration and a still reasonable 24 mpg combined rating.

Cabin trim and design: Audi crafts some very stylish and well-organized cabins, and the A6 ranks among its best efforts. There is more than enough headroom and legroom, the trim pieces look top-notch, and the tech features add a futuristic touch.

Sophisticated ride and handling: The A6 wafts down the road and its agile handling makes it easy to place exactly where you want it. Cool and collected, the A6 is a four-wheeled stress reliever thanks to its refined driving manners.

What Needs Improvement

Tech takes practice: If there is one drawback to the A6’s high degree of onboard technology, it’s that it takes practice to get accustomed to all the various commands and menus. Once familiar, the controls are intuitive. But there is a definite learning curve.
