The 2020 Audi A7 competes against the likes of premium sport sedans with coupe-like designs, including the Mercedes-Benz CLS, Porsche Panamera, and BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe. While it’s mechanically similar to the Audi A6 midsize luxury sedan, the A7 charts its own course thanks to its sportier style, hatchback trunk, and standard 335-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. This engine is coupled to a seven-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.
While the tapered roofline makes accessing the second row a little awkward, the A7 counters this critique with an expansive trunk. Behind the split second row that folds, there’s around 25 cubic feet of luggage space. Standard leather seating and many other luxury touches impart a classy feel to the cabin. Unfortunately, the dual-screen infotainment interface centered on the dashboard is pretty to look at but distracting to use with its overreliance on touchscreens.
Turbo V6: There are sportier versions of the A7, but we think the standard turbo V6 in the regular A7 has plenty of grunt for all sorts of driving adventures. It even gets an EPA-estimated 29 mpg on the highway.
Standard all-wheel drive: Luxury-car shoppers who live where roads routinely become slick with rain or snow will appreciate that every trim level of the A7 is fitted with Audi's all-wheel-drive system.
Trunk volume: The A7 has considerably more cargo space than what you get in traditional midsize luxury sedans, such as the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and even the Audi A6.
Touchscreen overload: Too many menus and an excessive reliance on touch-sensitive controls mean the A7’s infotainment system is difficult to navigate without taking attention away from driving.
