The 2023 Audi A7 is a four-door luxury sedan with a hatchback. It seats five and has standard all-wheel drive. Elegant and refined, the A7 is motivated by a 335-horsepower turbocharged V6 engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Performance is brisk, there’s plenty of highway passing power, and fuel economy rings in at an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in combined city/highway driving. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov. Notably, for the 2023 model year, Audi has dropped the plug-in hybrid powertrain. More powerful S7 and RS7 variants remain available but are reviewed separately.
The A7's hatchback design helps it stand out from other luxury sedans. This provides easy access to the trunk, which has nearly 25 cubic feet of space (or enough to hold about 31 grocery bags). That’s significantly more than direct competitors and comes close to matching a number of similarly sized luxury SUVs. The cabin is an oasis of quality materials and high-tech touches, including its standard digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Hatchback practicality: The term “hatchback” often conjures up images of small economy cars. Not so with the Audi A7. This cool operator has a wide-opening hatchback that swings upward to reveal 24.9 cubic feet of trunk volume. There’s even more room available with the split rear seats folded down.
Tech features: Anyone who loves tech is going to adore the interior of the A7. The digital instrument panel and infotainment touchscreen look great, and response times are exceptional. The navigation graphics are particularly sharp and impressive.
Performance: While there are sportier versions of the A7 to choose from, the standard 335-hp turbocharged V6 does an excellent job of getting this luxury sedan down the road. The fact that it doesn’t guzzle fuel is an added bonus.
Style sacrifices rear headroom: One caveat regarding the A7's tapering roofline is that it cuts into the headroom for backseat passengers. There’s enough room for average-size adults, but taller folks might find their heads brushing the headliner.
