The 2018 Audi RS 7 serves as the performance pinnacle of the A7 and S7 midsize luxury sedan range. Like its mechanical siblings, the RS 7 features a coupe-like shape and has a hatchback trunk opening that Audi refers to as “Sportback.” Sport is definitely in ample supply with the RS 7. A twin-turbo V8 sends 560 horsepower to all four wheels courtesy of an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
Should a luxury sedan be capable of rocketing from zero to 60 mph in a little more than 3.0 seconds? Audi thinks so, apparently. The optional Performance trim cranks output to an even more staggering and supercar-like 605 horsepower. A sport-tuned suspension and 21-inch alloy wheels help keep the RS 7 glued to the road, though the ride is very firm for a premium sedan.
On the other hand, we’d wager that people drawn to the RS 7 are more interested in ripping around corners at high speed than being coddled with a pillow-soft ride. There were no significant changes or updates made to the RS 7 for the 2018 model year.
Turbo V8: No big surprise, the 560-horsepower turbo V8 is the star of the show. This engine provides the RS 7 with the speed of an outright supercar, including Audi’s own mid-engine R8.
Luxurious interior: Styling is subjective, though we’re fans of the RS 7’s aggressive exterior. Inside there’s no debate: The cabin is stylish, elegantly appointed, and feels every bit like it belongs to one of the speediest sedans on the planet.
Hatchback utility: Audi calls it a Sportback, but we simply call the RS 7’s rear liftgate and spacious trunk a handy surprise. Granted, you might want to securely stow any parcels back there when you consider how wickedly fast this car gets up to speed.
Firm ride: The lowered sport suspension and large wheels on the RS 7 are great at delivering sharp handling and keeping this Audi firmly under control. But “firm” is the operative word because the ride is much harder than what you get in many other luxury sedans.
