Buick’s lineup has evolved to offering only crossover SUVs, and the 2022 Envision is one step down from the top-level Enclave. With seating for five, the Envision delivers a premium experience with a quiet ride, high-end features, and an attractive cabin. Completely redesigned for the 2021 model year, the 2022 Envision has only minor changes, which include updates to the Sport Touring (ST) package, red seat stitching on Essence trims, and a new color: Sapphire Metallic. The 2022 Envision is available in three trim levels: Preferred, Essence, and the luxurious Avenir, all of which have front-wheel drive standard and optional all-wheel drive. Under the hood, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is standard on the Envision, delivering 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Despite offering an array of impressive premium features, the Envision faces stiff competition from rivals such as the Acura RDX, Genesis GV70, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Volvo XC60 in the premium crossover segment.
Interior: While the trim materials in the Buick Envision may not be at the same level as some of its competitors, the cabin still has a premium vibe with attractive, clean styling. The available 10.2-inch infotainment display angles toward the driver for better access to controls. The front seats have multiple adjustments, offering seat massagers for added comfort on longer trips.
Technology: The Envision comes standard with an eight-inch display and the option of upgrading to a larger 10.2-inch screen. Both offer an intuitive interface with physical controls for volume and tuning, as well as wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. Advanced driver-assist features like automatic emergency braking and lane keeping assistance are standard on all trim levels.
Performance: All Envisions come equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that provides good power for this premium crossover. According to the Edmunds review, the Buick can reach 60 mph in 7.7 seconds, which is quick for a vehicle of this type. There is some body roll when it's pushed hard, but the handling is decent and braking power is strong.
Utility: Despite providing a comfortable ride for its five passengers, the Envision falls short in terms of utility. With just 25.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, it offers less storage capacity than many of its competitors. Its towing capacity is also limited to a mere 1,500 pounds.
RepairPal gave the Buick Envision an overall reliability rating of 5 out of 5 stars, which RepairPal describes as Excellent. This rating ranks Buick Envision 1st out of 32 among Midsize SUVs.
