The 2017 Chevrolet Impala takes the classic sedan to the next level by packing its tried-and-true four-door frame with new features, tech, and cabin options. If you're comparing different Impala models, you may notice there are no significant differences between the 2017 Impala’s base LS trim and some of its earlier versions, but the suite of tech and styling options for the LT and Premier trims has definitely grown.
1. Evolved set of tech inclusions
The 2017 Chevrolet Impala is a classic sedan with some interesting tech features. The base LS trim comes with a 4.2-inch color display (non-touchscreen) paired with an auxiliary input jack. It also carries a center console USB port and Bluetooth® connectivity. The LT and Premier trims, meanwhile, come standard with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration, an eight-inch color touchscreen, and other tech. Chevrolet also deepened its bench of driver-assist features, such as forward collision alert, lane departure warning, and side blind zone alert. On the LT, many of those remain optional only, but they come standard on the Premier trim.
The Impala is known for its spaciousness and comfort, and the 2017 model does not disappoint. All trims come with front bucket seats, power seats, driver lumbar control, and a roomy cabin. Front occupants get 45.8 inches of legroom and 39.9 inches of headroom, while rear-seat passengers get 39.8 inches of legroom and 37.4 inches of headroom. As for cargo room, the trunk can hold up to 18.8 cu-ft’s worth of groceries, sports equipment, or beach day gear.
The LS and LT have a standard 2.5L, four-cylinder engine delivering 197 horsepower or an available 3.6L V6 engine boasting 305 horsepower — while the Premier trim gets the more powerful option as standard. The V6 engine adds significant acceleration and power, going from zero-to-60 in 6.8 seconds. Fuel economy isn’t dramatically different between engine types. The 2.5-liter engine gets an EPA-estimated1 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, while the V6 engine clocks in at 18 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway.
The 2017 Chevy Impala offers simplified interior color and material options that are logical and easy to understand according to trim level. There are three possible colors: the blue-gray Titanium with black accents; the ecru-colored Light Wheat with black accents; and the all-black interior. As for materials, there are all-cloth seats (LS), cloth and leatherette seats (LT), and perforated leather appointments (Premier). The LS has the fewest number of color and material combos, while the LT and Premier have the most variety to look out for.
All trims of the 2017 Chevrolet Impala carry a six-speaker sound system with a 100-watt amplifier. The LT and Premier trims, however, have the option to add on the 11-speaker Bose® Centerpoint® sound system. The stereo system works with Bluetooth®, Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, CDs, and the good old-fashioned radio, letting you pump up the jam no matter the device. The triple-sealed doors and acoustic-laminated glass cancel a considerable amount of wind and road noises, letting you get the full effect of the sound system.
