The 2018 Chevrolet Impala received minor improvements and changes, most notably making features like a rearview camera, keyless entry and push-button start standard on all models. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ also come standard and the base LS trim received an upgraded touchscreen interface that uses Chevy's MyLink system.
The formula for the Impala has remained consistent. It's a large sedan that delivers a comfortable ride paired with a spacious interior. The base engine is not very powerful and its fuel economy is disappointing, but a V6 is available and it delivers on the power front. The interior is plenty roomy and adults can sit in the backseat without reason to complain. However, the interior is also quite plasticky and visibility is hampered by thick roof pillars.
Still, the Impala boasts one of the largest trunks in the segment and it's quiet at freeway speeds. Competitors like the Toyota Avalon, Hyundai Azera and Chrysler 300 are also worth a look, but the Impala's a comfortable sedan that holds its own.
Utility: The trunk is one of the largest among large sedans at 18.8 cu-ft; only the contemporary Ford Taurus offers more space. The roomy interior also offers bins for storing your stuff, including a clever behind-the-touchscreen storage space.
Comfort: A smooth, comfortable ride might be the Impala's claim to fame. Wind and road noise is kept to a minimum and the suspension smooths out many bumps in the road. The front seats are well-padded, while the rear seats offer plenty of legroom to adults and kids alike.
Interior: The Impala is roomy, offering enough space to stretch out whether you're in the driver's seat or the back row. It's also easy to get in and out of the sedan. Most primary and secondary controls are easy to understand and use.
Driving: The base engine is underpowered and not very fuel efficient, and handling is a bit below average. The Impala is a perfectly comfortable sedan, but driving it is not exciting.
