The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is designed for buyers who need a truck with heavy-duty towing and cargo-carrying capacities. The Silverado 2500HD can pull and carry far more weight than the standard Silverado 1500, up to nearly 4,000 pounds of payload or 18,500 pounds of trailer weight, depending on the engine you choose. Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories.
The 2023 Silverado 2500HD was offered with a 6.6-liter gasoline-fueled V8 or a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8 engine. The gas V8 came with a six-speed automatic transmission, while the diesel was equipped with a 10-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive was standard, while a traditional dual-range four-wheel-drive system was optional. Payload capacities were 3,715 to 3,969 pounds for either engine, but the gas V8 was rated to tow 14,500 pounds, while the diesel could pull up to 18,500 pounds. Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories.
Competitors to the Silverado 2500HD include the Ford F-250 and Ram HD, as well as the GMC Sierra HD, which is closely related to the Silverado and has the same specs. All of these trucks are comparable in capabilities and pricing, and selection is mostly a matter of personal preference.
Variety of available body styles: Chevrolet offers the 2500HD in a variety of configurations, including a traditional single cab with an eight-foot-long truck bed. Buyers can also get a double cab with a small rear seating area or a full four-door crew cab with a 6.8-foot short bed or an eight-foot long bed.
Capable engine choices: Buyers can choose a gasoline-fueled V8 with 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, or spend a little more money for the turbodiesel engine with 445 horsepower and a potent 910 lb-ft of torque for better towing performance. In either case, the Silverado 2500HD has plenty of engine power for whatever work is required.
Advanced towing technology: The Silverado 2500HD can provide up to 15 camera views, including remote cameras looking behind large trailers and inside the trailer. The infotainment system can stitch together side views and rear views, and with some additional equipment and setup, can display on the dash a real-time Transparent Trailer View as if the trailer was not there. Also, side and rear views enable precision trailer placement and reversing.
Interior design: Pickup trucks are more than just utilitarian vehicles to many buyers. They function as mobile offices and even living rooms. With that in mind, the Silverado 2500HD's interior may appear dated compared to other 2023 truck models, especially if the truck is a less expensive trim level. Other brands may offer larger screens and more advanced driver-assistance features.
