2021 was the second year of the redesigned Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, so the exterior look was still quite fresh and Chevrolet was still adding features. Specifically in this year, Chevrolet offered its optional camera capabilities in the less expensive trim levels, along with other tech advances, including wireless Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® smartphone integration.
The 2021 Silverado 2500HD was offered with a choice of powerful gasoline and turbodiesel V8 engines, and with optional four-wheel drive. The Silverado HD could be ordered with a traditional two-door standard single-row cab, a four-door two-row double cab with a smaller rear seat area, or a full four-door crew cab with a larger rear seat area. All of those options made the 2021 Silverado 2500HD a versatile and functional choice for work or family use.
The Silverado 2500 HD had some heavy-hitting competition from the Ford F-250, Ram HD, and GMC Sierra HD. All are comparable in terms of capability, variety of features, and price.
Powerful engines: The 2021 Silverado 2500HD could be ordered with a gasoline-fueled 6.6-liter V8 rated at 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque or an upgraded 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8 engine with 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque for better towing performance and better fuel economy estimates.
Versatile cab and bed options: Chevrolet offered the 2021 Silverado 2500HD with choices of three different cab sizes and two useful beds. The long bed measured a little more than eight feet, while the standard bed length is 6 feet 10 inches. Depending on your usage requirements, you could even pair the long bed with the crew cab, which can’t be done on the light-duty Silverado 1500.
Towing camera system: Chevrolet offers up to 15 camera views when towing, including from remote cameras inside and behind your trailer. The system can even combine views from along the sides and behind the trailer to create a composite Transparent Trailer View. The various camera views allow easy reversing and precision trailer placement, even for amateurs.
Towing and hauling capability: While the 2021 Silverado 2500HD offers great towing and hauling capability, leapfrogging competition among truck makers means that it did not offer the highest capacity of any brand in this model year. However, the Silverado 2500HD offers up to 18,500 pounds of towing capacity and nearly 4,000 pounds of payload, which is enough to meet most people’s needs.
