The 2021 Fiat 500X gets minor interior upgrades

The 2021 Fiat 500X is a subcompact SUV that excels at style and design, and beyond that delivers average practicality. The 500X’s style and personality, along with standard all-wheel drive, help it stand out from competitors, and the interior conveys a more upscale feel than most extra-small SUVs. For 2021, the entry-level Pop and Trekking trims get upgraded interior materials, too.

On the downside, the Fiat’s cargo and passenger space are tight, but not the smallest in the segment. While there are a decent number of technology upgrades available, they aren’t necessarily the best-executed offerings. For example, the touchscreen is small and not particularly easy to use, and the optional driver aids can be a bit sensitive.

5 reasons to buy the 2021 Fiat 500X

What We Like

Standard AWD: The Fiat 500X comes standard with AWD in every trim, making it easy to shop for if you want that extra traction. Not all of its direct competitors even offer all-wheel drive, and AWD can be a pricey extra for some that do.

Style and character: The 500X has a lot of extra little design touches that make it stand out from other extra-small SUVs. Compared to other subcompacts, the small details on the Fiat give it more personality and a sense of fun.

Cabin quality: With upgrades to the Fiat’s interior materials, the 500X features lots of upscale-feeling touchpoints and solid plastics with a variety of textures and finishes. The 500X’s interior has more tactile appeal than its competitors.

What Needs Improvement

Tech usability: It can be hard to read the small text on the Fiat 500X’s touchscreen, and the system can be frustrating to use. The driver aids (some of which are optional extras), tend to be overly sensitive, and their warning sounds can be startling. Overall, the 500X’s tech isn’t as user-friendly as we’d like.
