Comfy, spacious sedan

The 2014 Volkswagen Passat is an excellent family sedan for various reasons, starting with its comfortable and roomy cabin. Up front, you’ll enjoy 42.4 inches of legroom, giving people of all sizes lots of room. The rear seats are equally roomy, offering a kid-, teen-, and adult-friendly 39.1 inches of legroom. The spaciousness doesn’t end there, either. It also has a 15.9-cu-ft trunk that gives you plenty of space to haul groceries and other necessities. This is all on top of a soft-riding chassis that absorbs most road imperfections nicely and keeps cabin noise to a minimum.

5 reasons to buy the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

1. Great midrange engine

The Passat’s base five-cylinder engine might leave you wanting more, but the optional 1.8L turbocharged four-cylinder engine is sure to please. This engine delivers 170 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque through a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission and up to the front wheels for a 7.3-second sprint to 60 mph. It’s also sure to impress with its respectable EPA-estimated fuel economy of 24 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined with the manual transmission.

The automatic transmission lowers the EPA-estimated highway fuel economy to 34 mpg but all others are the same as the manual.

2. Powerful V6 option

If you need more power, the 2014 Passat also offers a 3.6L V6 engine option. This powerplant delivers 280 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. This adds up to a more exciting zero-to-60 time of 6.5 seconds.

3. Great ride

The midsize Volkswagen Passat rides atop a refined chassis that focuses on comfort. It smooths out even the roughest roads, ensuring you get a smooth, soft, and quiet ride on your daily commute. This will ensure you arrive at your destination refreshed and ready to tackle whatever tasks are on your agenda.

4. Diesel option

The collection of available engines in the 2014 Passat includes one diesel option. This 2.0L turbodiesel four-cylinder engine delivers just 140 hp, but its torque rings in at a powerful 236 lb-ft. You’ll love that it gets an EPA-estimated 30 mpg city, 40 mpg highway, and 34 mpg combined with the six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

5. Roomy and comfortable interior

The 2014 Passat boasts a roomy cabin that can accommodate your kids or teens, but it can also haul around all your adult friends for a night out. Up front, it features 42.4 inches of legroom and well-padded seats for long-haul comfort. The rear seats offer an adult-friendly 39.1 inches of legroom. And if you need to haul cargo, its 15.9-cu-ft trunk is happy to oblige. On top of all this roominess and comfort, you’re also surrounded by upscale materials, premium-looking gauges, and more.
