The Hyundai Elantra is a budget-friendly small sedan with a wild side
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra is a compact sedan that competes directly with rivals such as the Honda Civic, Mazda3, Toyota Corolla, and Nissan Sentra. Changes this model year include updated exterior styling with a sleeker grille and new features like side-impact airbags for rear passengers and more USB ports.
Working in favor of the Elantra are its upscale cabin and user-friendly tech features, including a choice of two infotainment screens that are easy to navigate and rich in content. Variety is another strong point with the Elantra, thanks in part to its three available gas-powered engines.
Standard is a 147-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired to a continuously variable automatic transmission. The N Line trim has a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder that delivers 201 hp. At the top of the performance heap, so to speak, the Elantra N comes with a 276-hp turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder and choice of a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. There is also an available hybrid model if you want to maximize your mpg.

What We Like
Sporty Elantra N: This could be one of the top undercover sports cars available today. With a total of 276 hp and available shift-for-yourself transmission, the Elantra N rips down the road and begs you to attack corners. In other words, it’s a whole lot of fun.
Upscale exterior: The Elantra has a budget-friendly price, though it certainly doesn’t have a cut-rate design. For the 2024 model year the Elantra gets a new front grille and redesigned headlights and taillights. The lower trims are handsome, while the zippy N Line and N models are downright racy in appearance.
Solid value: Even the entry-level Elantra comes with a long roster of comfort, tech, and driver-assist features. For no added charge you get an eight-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, a pair of USB ports, remote keyless entry, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights.
What Needs Improvement
Headroom in the second row: Elantra shoppers who routinely shuttle taller folks might want to check the headroom in this Hyundai’s second row. There is a price to be paid for this car’s swoopy shape, and that tapered roofline does take a chunk out of available room for your noggin when perched in the back.
