The 2024 Hyundai Tucson is a stylish and spacious compact SUV
The Hyundai Tucson is a compact SUV that sits in between the smaller Hyundai Kona and the larger Santa Fe in the automaker's lineup. Some of its competitors include the Honda CR-V, Kia Sportage, and Toyota RAV4. Notable strengths of the Tucson are its comfortable ride, spacious interior, and intuitive touchscreen operating system. A hybrid model is also available, which is reviewed separately.
There are a few changes to note on the 2024 Tucson. Rear side airbags were added, and the steering wheel now vibrates briefly to provide feedback when using lane-keeping assistance and blind-spot collision avoidance. The SEL trim gets dual-zone automatic climate control as a standard feature, and SEL models with the Convenience package get the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen. If you're a fan of ambient interior lighting, the Tucson’s color palette has expanded from 10 to 64 colors. Finally, the seat belt reminder now chimes for all passengers rather than just the driver.

What We Like
Cargo space: You can toss plenty of items in the back of a Tucson. Its storage capacity of 38.7 cubic feet (roughly 38 grocery bags) with the rear seats up is among the largest for compact SUVs. Fold down the rear seats and you've got 74.8 cubic feet at your disposal. The low liftover height and flat floor make it easy to stack up boxes or other cargo.
Infotainment system: The touchscreens are flat and not protected by shrouds of any kind so they could get washed out by the sun, but somehow, they don't. That's a testament to the screen quality. The navigation system features a clear map, with vivid visuals and route directions. The available Bose® audio system impressed us with its sound quality as well.
Roomy cabin: Excellent ergonomics and an abundance of interior space make the Tucson's cabin a pleasant place to be. For drivers, it's easy to find a comfortable and commanding position in the wide front seats, plus a large windscreen and thin pillars allow for great visibility. Rear passengers will be able to stretch their legs or recline their seats.
What Needs Improvement
Sluggish acceleration: The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine struggles to get up to speed. In Edmunds' testing, the Tucson was among the slower vehicles in its class to reach 60 mph. Edmunds also found that the Tucson had trouble reacting quickly to throttle input and required a strong foot on the pedal to reach highway speeds. Once there, it maintains speed with no problem, and there’s plenty of muscle for running errands and school pickups around town.
