The 2020 Infiniti QX60 coasts to retirement as automaker preps replacement

This is the final year of production for the first-generation QX60, which began its journey in 2013 as the Infiniti JX35. The seven-passenger, three-row midsize luxury SUV sees no changes as it coasts toward its retirement date.

Buyers choose between Pure and Luxe trim levels and front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. All QX60s have a 295-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). When properly equipped, a QX60 can tow 5,000 pounds.

The QX60 is roomy for up to five people, but the third-row seat is cramped for adults. Cargo space ranges from 16 cubic feet to 76.2 cubic feet, and if you keep the third-row seat folded down, the QX60 carries up to 40.5 cubic feet of cargo.

Increasingly, the QX60’s technology is dated. The infotainment system doesn’t support Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™, and only a handful of safety features are standard. Many of the QX60’s rivals offer a more satisfying driving experience, more modern technology, a more comfortable third-row seat, and more. However, that could make the Infiniti a relative bargain.

5 reasons to buy the 2020 Infiniti QX60

What We Like

Satisfactory acceleration: Infiniti’s tried-and-true 3.5-liter V6 engine is one of the best things about the QX60. It provides plenty of power and supplies good acceleration, and the continuously variable automatic transmission is agreeable. It helps that Infiniti programs the transmission to sound and feel more like a traditional automatic, especially when you're accelerating in the QX60.

Comfortable and quiet inside: On the road, the Infiniti QX60 is impressively quiet inside and proves comfortable for up to five people in the first two rows. And while the QX60’s third-row seat is small for adults, it works well for kids. Better yet, you can tip and slide the second-row seat forward for easier third-row loading and unloading, even when a child safety seat is mounted in that location.

Effective climate control system: The QX60’s triple-zone automatic climate control system is remarkably effective in hot and cold weather. Upgrades include an available air filtration and purification system, and Infiniti offers heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and a heated steering wheel. With all of these features, the QX60’s cabin is clean, cozy, and comfortable in any kind of weather.

What Needs Improvements

Infotainment system: One of the most disappointing things about the 2020 Infiniti QX60 is its infotainment system. Navigation, connected services, satellite radio, and a premium sound system cost extra, and the Infiniti InTouch™ technology is woefully out of touch since it doesn’t support Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto. You can bring your old CDs, though, because the QX60 does have a CD player.
