Three years after it was introduced, the 2019 Jaguar F-Pace enters a new model year with a sizable round of useful updates. For those who crave horsepower there’s the new SVR trim. It comes with a 550-horsepower supercharged V8 that gives this five-passenger SUV a degree of performance more aligned to a vehicle like Jaguar’s F-Type sports car.
Every F-Pace now comes with more standard active driver-assist features, including automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, lane keeping assistance, lane departure warning, and driver drowsiness monitor. Also newly standard is a 10-inch infotainment screen that’s available with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.
Powertrain choices range from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder to a supercharged 3.0-liter V6, the SVR’s tire-smoking supercharged V8, and an economy-minded turbocharged diesel four-cylinder engine. The interior and cargo area are both equally spacious, though some of the cabin’s trim looks and feels inexpensive. Rivals to the F-Pace include the BMW X3, Acura RDX, Porsche Macan, and Infiniti QX50.
Agile and fun to drive: The F-Pace has a playful nature in how it drives. Thanks to its nicely controlled suspension, responsive steering, and standard all-wheel drive, you’ll always feel in control no matter the driving conditions.
Performance: The diesel is great on gas and the standard turbo-four is perfectly capable. But the horsepower that comes with the supercharged V6, much less the outrageous 550-hp V8, turns the F-Pace into a riotous performance machine.
Cargo space and towing: Jaguar didn’t forget people buy SUVs for their practicality. With this in mind, the F-Pace boasts a larger cargo hold than many of its direct competitors. When properly equipped, it also has a commendable max towing capacity of 5,290 pounds.
Bigger wheels mean less comfort: The F-Pace is an attractive luxury crossover, so it’s tempting to make the design even more handsome by ordering larger 20- or 21-inch alloy wheels. Be warned, the bigger wheels make the suspension much too firm if you routinely drive over anything but pool-table-like roads.
RepairPal gave the Jaguar F-Pace an overall reliability rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars, which RepairPal describes as Above Average. This rating ranks Jaguar F-Pace 10th out of 29 among Luxury Midsize SUVs.
