The 2021 Jaguar XF is a compelling choice for anyone who prefers to go against the grain when choosing a midsize luxury sedan. In terms of design, the XF has a sleek and sophisticated shape that sets it apart from rivals like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series, and Audi A6. A redesigned grille and headlights and new wheel designs help extend the stylistic shelf life of this British luxury car.
A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is offered in two states of tune, one with 247 horsepower and the other with 296 hp. The less powerful of the two can be had in rear- or all-wheel drive configuration, while the 296-hp version has all-wheel drive as standard.
Gone from the 2021 XF lineup is the Sportbrake wagon and optional supercharged V6. Thankfully, also getting the heave-ho is the previous XF’s maddening infotainment system, replaced by the much-improved 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen. Jaguar has also made desirable features like wireless device charging, satellite radio, and more active driver aids as standard equipment.
Power and agility: The XF is agile, whether maneuvering easily through city traffic or cruising an empty highway filled with twists and turns. While the suspension is firm, it copes well with all types of road surfaces and gives this Jaguar a relaxed and fluid feel.
Available all-wheel drive: Having all-wheel drive optional with the base engine, and standard with the upgraded powertrain, could sway luxury-car shoppers who might otherwise have gone straight to an SUV. While the rear-wheel-drive configuration is perfectly fine, this added all-weather grip is a nice safety net when the road ahead turns messy.
Roomy interior: The cabin of the XF has more than enough headroom and legroom for adults of all shapes and sizes. Supportive front seats hold you firmly in place but are not overly aggressive in terms of firmness or bolstering. Leather seating and heated front seats are standard.
Competition is more varied: With the loss of the Sportbrake wagon and previously optional supercharged V6, the Jaguar XF has its limitations against rivals that offer more powertrain choices and body styles. Lacking a high-performance model at the top of the range could dent the XF’s appeal to driving enthusiasts too.
