The 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a midsize luxury SUV that squares off against a wide range of desirable rivals. They include the Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5, Audi Q8, and Mercedes-Benz GLE, to name only a few. While there are few notable changes for the 2022 model year, the Range Rover Sport makes a strong case for itself in terms of its amenities, cabin quality, performance, and all-terrain prowess.
Four engines are available: a pair of turbocharged inline six-cylinders and two supercharged V8s. Four-wheel drive is standard across the lineup and every engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic. Land Rover has a long tradition of building vehicles—even ones costing this level of money—that don’t wilt over rough terrain. This holds true for the Range Rover Sport. It’s equally at home parked outside a Michelin-starred restaurant as it is crawling over boulders.
Performance: The Range Rover Sport might be a large SUV, but punch the gas and it gets down the road quickly. This is particularly true when one of the two available supercharged V8s is nestled in the engine bay. With upward of 575 horsepower, they turn this SUV into a high-riding sports car.
Cabin quality: Rich leather and top-notch trim materials are reminders Land Rover has been building luxury SUVs for decades. The interior of the Range Rover Sport is elegantly finished and extremely comfortable for anyone seated in the first two rows.
Off-road driving: Luxury SUV shoppers who like a little adventure in their daily commute will appreciate the go-anywhere attitude of the Range Rover Sport. Its tenacious four-wheel-drive system makes it adept at traversing all types of terrain.
Clunky infotainment system: This has been a recurring issue with many Land Rover vehicles, and unfortunately the same criticism applies here. The dual-touchscreen layout looks sharp, but response times can be slow to driver inputs and some routine commands take too many steps.
