The Audi Q4 e-tron is a compact luxury electric SUV. It is the entry point for Audi's electric vehicles and sits under the larger Q8 e-tron SUV. The Q4 e-tron is about a foot shorter than the Q8 e-tron, but it features nearly the same passenger and cargo space. Underneath, the Q4 e-tron shares some of its underpinnings with the related Volkswagen ID.4; however, the Q4 e-tron features a more luxurious interior design using premium materials to justify the jump in price. The Q4 e-tron is capable of an EPA-estimated 236-265 miles of range, depending on the trim. A sleeker Q4 e-tron Sportback version is reviewed separately. Range figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new and assume a full battery charge. Range will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info.
The 2024 Audi Q4 e-tron received a few minor updates. Adaptive cruise control with lane centering is now standard on all models. The steering wheel has been updated to include paddles that can adjust the level of regenerative braking, depending on how much you want the vehicle to slow down when letting off the accelerator. Additionally, a HomeLink® universal garage door opener is now available on certain trims.
Quiet cabin: The Q4 e-tron's interior is very quiet thanks to its dual-pane front windows. You might notice slight wind buffeting around the mirrors and occasional road noise when riding on broken pavement, but they're at relatively low levels. There are zero squeaks and rattles, which speaks to the build quality, and when you step hard on the accelerator the most you'll hear is a slight electric whine. On the right surface, the Q4 e-tron can feel nearly silent.
Roomy seating: There's plenty of headroom and legroom up front, and the seats are wide enough to make the cabin feel airy. Rear passengers should find tons of legroom and ample headroom. The rear floor is completely flat, which improves legroom for the middle passenger. The accommodations may be a little tight for three adults, but they're about as good as you can get in a compact SUV.
Technology: The Prestige trim that Edmunds tested benefited from the upgraded Audi Virtual Cockpit, which displays the navigation map in your gauge cluster. The Prestige also features an augmented reality head-up display, which projects your turn-by-turn directions on the windshield.
More cargo space: The Q4 e-tron offers adequate storage space, but it is not class-leading. Behind the rear seat, there's 24.8 cubic feet of space available, which is comparable to the Genesis GV60 but short of the Tesla Model Y and its 30.2 cubic feet. That's not even counting the Tesla's 4.1-cubic-foot front trunk, which is something the Audi doesn't have. That said, the rear seatbacks do fold flat and can divide the rear seat into three sections.
